Now that I’ve completed the egg freezing procedure, I’m making my way through writing about it.

I’m not at all saying that my experience will mimic or be even remotely similar to other’s experiences. But I went into this with very little idea of what it would be like.

So I plan to do this series in 4 parts:

  • Egg freezing, week 1 (the first week of injections)

  • Egg freezing, week 2 (the second week of injections up until the retrieval) aka this very post

  • Egg freezing, post-retrieval to period (the two weeks after the retrieval, including the follow-up appointment with my provider)

  • Q + A (submit anonymous questions here)

Certainly I think it’s important to recognize themes and patterns, and sometimes reading things chronologically can feel pretty boring. But it’s what I was yearning to read before going through the process, so that I could’ve planned my work week better around it.

Before getting into specifics, I will say I had an overwhelmingly positive experience. It was not all seamless. But I went in a bit fearful, and ended the process feeling incredibly empowered. I say this not to invalidate anyone who had a not so positive experience, but to perhaps ease some worries as this does feel like a big momentous thing, something I put off for over a year since starting the process.

And on that note, week 2 - here we go!
