If there’s one topic that ignites an immediate strong reaction on social media it’s seeing influencers in positions of privilege bashing the birth control pill.
The reasons behind this are multi-layered, as you’ll find in the next 3,000+ words.
What this post will not contain is any sort of gaslighting or fear mongering. Your experience with birth control and any medication for that matter is entirely your experience and your choice. I honor and validate that lived experience.
This post will contain a bit of education on a typical 28 day menstrual cycle, and how the birth control pill disrupts this cycle to prevent pregnancy.
I’ll also be reviewing other options/types of birth control, potential side effects of birth control, common misconceptions, my own experience with birth control and accessible interventions for hormonal optimization for all.
I’ll also be rooting this conversation in the current political climate as reproductive health access and body autonomy have become increasingly at risk.
My goal is not to sway anyone into or out of any certain opinion. Though I do hope this provides a bit more information about different birth control options, and the utmost importance of making contraception as accessible as possible to all who want or need it.
TW: If you are struggling with fertility, this may be a post to skip. Thinking of you and wrapping you in a warm hug in my thoughts.
